Easy CBD Recipes to Try at Home.

Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, is one of the main chemical compounds within the cannabis plant. Recently, many peer-reviewed studies and scientific research reports have arisen discussing the many benefits of CBD for mental, physical, and emotional health.

CBD benefits can include:

  • Pain relief

  • Reduced muscle stiffness & tension

  • Lessened symptoms of anxiety & depression

  • Reduction in acne & breakouts

  • Aid in memory & concentration

Unlike one of the other major compounds in cannabis, THC, CBD is non-psychoactive. This means that you can get the many benefits that CBD has to offer without getting “high”.

(You can learn more about the major differences between CBD and THC on our blog.)

So now you want to start using CBD to benefit your health or perhaps just to see what the fuss is about. How do you start using CBD, though?

Instead of just putting a dropper full of CBD oil on your tongue or dabbing it onto problem areas, we have a way to make things a bit more fun and give some more variety to your CBD routine.

Here are a couple of easy CBD recipes to try at home that we highly recommend!

CBD Lotion Recipe

CBD-infused lotion is one of the best ways to get pain relief & relieve muscle tension and inflammation in targeted areas.

Instead of ingesting the CBD as an edible or an oil, you’ll be able to rub the CBD lotion onto the specific areas causing you pain or discomfort. This allows the CBD to absorb and target that area directly, which can lead to faster and more effective relief.

Making your own lotion also ensures that you’re adding safe and natural ingredients. Similar to DIY cleaning products, DIY lotions like this one help you eliminate harmful chemicals and toxins from your life while also reducing plastic waste.

Try out this recipe:

  • ½ cup shea butter

  • ⅓ cup aloe vera gel

  • ½ cup coconut oil

  • CBD oil or tincture

  • 1 tsp vitamin E oil

  • 15-30 drops of essential oil (optional)

First, gather all of your ingredients.

Next, add about two inches of water into a pot and place on the stove over low heat. On top of the pot, place a heat-proof bowl with your shea butter and coconut oil.

This will allow you to slowly melt these two ingredients together to completely combine them.

Once it’s fully combined & melted, take the bowl off the heat and allow the mixture to cool for about an hour. Once it’s cooled, add the remaining ingredients before blending all the ingredients together.

The vitamin E in this recipe can increase the shelf life of the lotion (good for ~2-4 weeks) as well as providing plenty of skin benefits, including moisturizing properties, anti-inflammatory properties, and more.

Note that we didn’t indicate how much CBD to include. This is because, just like other types of medicinal products, CBD comes in a wide variety of purity and concentrations. This can affect the amount you need to put in in order to get a specific dose.

We recommend speaking with a medical professional or with the brand or manufacturer of the CBD you’re using in order to understand a dose that will work for you. You can then use that dose along with the CBD’s concentration to calculate how much CBD to put in the recipe.

Healthy CBD Gummies

Many prefer to eat their CBD. Consuming CBD orally tends to have a more subtle effect on the body than if you used a vaporizer or applied it topically (like with a lotion, salve, or straight CBD oil). Easy cbd recipes to try at home.

Sure, you could just drop some oil on your tongue or into a smoothie. But if you want something a bit more fun, consider making some natural and healthy CBD gummies with this recipe. Here are the ingredients you’ll need:

  • Fresh or frozen fruit of your choice

  • CBD oil or tincture

  • Unflavored gelatin powder (or agar powder for a vegetarian option)

  • Molds for the gummies

  • Digital thermometer

In this recipe, the ratio of ingredients looks like 0.5 cups fruit pureéd: 0.5 cups water: 8 teaspoons of gelatin/agar: 1 mL CBD oil. However, like we said earlier, you can adjust this ratio & the amount of CBD to suit your dosage needs.

First, purée your fruit. In a pan, add the water and sprinkle the gelatin/agar on top and let sit for about 3 minutes before placing the mixture on medium heat. Keep the mixture on the heat while consistently stirring until the temperature reaches ~165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Take off the heat and transfer to a large bowl, adding your desired amount of CBD as you do so. All that’s left to do is add your mixture to your gummy molds and let harden in the fridge for about 30 minutes!

Remember: the dose of each gummy will change depending on the amount of CBD you use along with the number of gummies you make. Carefully calculate the dose in each gummy so you can be sure of how many to eat to get your full dose.
